Get In Touch

Daniel J. Carl has been passionate about Sea Otters since his first visit to Elkhorn Slough in Monterey Bay, many years ago. Daniel is an avid scuba diver, who has visited many world class dive spots, including the kelp forests along the California coast, Oregon, and Washington where the northern sea otter lives. In his many dives along the Baja Mexico and San Diego coastlines, he has experienced almost spiritual encounters with marine mammals and recognizes the importance of this missing keystone species in the kelp forest ecosystems. Daniel has studied oceanography and has participated in ocean floor research along the continental shelf, off the California coast. He has also participated in nearshore erosion and wave action research, along the San Diego coastline. Daniel is passionate about replenishing sea otter colonies, in order that this keystone species will revitalize the kelp forests, which are important for our fisheries, absorption of carbon dioxide, and the production of oxygen for the global ecosystem.
